Course Description: Experimental Psychology at University of Oxford in Oxford, UK

The Oxford Experimental Psychology for ages 16-18 provides the fascinating world of experimental psychology and the complexities of the human mind. By designing investigations, learning from experts, and examining the ethics of psychological research, ambitious learners will develop a solid understanding of the field. Through case studies and research, students will study the brain, mind, and behaviour, with a strong focus on applying theory to real-world scenarios.

They will also examine human interaction, the psychology behind belief in fake news, and innovative approaches to mental health care, all grounded in scientific, evidence-based research.

For students who have already studied at our Medicine Summer School, this course offers an insight into a related but unique field of scientific research.

Students on our Experimental Psychology School Programme will enhance their academic skills and strengthen their ability in school by:

  • Learn how psychological principles apply to real-world scenarios, including education, health, and everyday situations.

  • Complete a presentation on a chosen topic, and a written research report based on an experiment students will conduct themselves, allowing students to put their knowledge into practice.

  • Encourage creative thinking about psychological phenomena and promotes an understanding of how psychology applies to everyday life, education, and health. This approach empowers students to critically engage with complex topics and real-world issues.

  • Understand the fundamental concepts in experimental psychology, including experimental design and the distinction between correlation and causation. Critically evaluate studies and develop insights into the complexities of human behaviour and cognition.

  • Take part in thought-provoking discussions, exploring psychological theories and classic studies from alternative and challenging perspectives. This encourages a balance of open-mindedness with critical evaluation preparing students for higher education.

  • Through collaborative learning and guidance from experts, our learners will develop the skills to articulate their thoughts clearly and engage creatively with complex psychological phenomena.
