Program Description

The Summer English Program at the University of San Diego (USD) offers a comprehensive and academically enriching experience for international students aged 14–17. Designed to enhance language proficiency, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding, this immersive program is set on a beautiful, secure campus in the heart of San Diego.

Students can choose from 2 to 4-week sessions in General English or enroll in two-week specialized courses in Business English or Academic English. Each week includes morning English classes, daily afternoon activities, a full-day excursion, and on-campus accommodation with meals.

Courses

Career & Business Development – A two-week course that prepares students for the modern workplace. Learn how to write a résumé, prepare for interviews, and begin developing your own business ideas.

Course Details:

• Classes held on the University of San Diego campus

• Average of 14 students per class

• 20 lessons per week

• Courses may be combined for extended enrollment

• All levels welcome (B1+ for Business course)

Daily Sample Schedule

Each day in San Diego blends education, exploration, and beachside fun in a safe and structured environment.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Breakfast – Start your day with a nutritious breakfast in the student dining hall alongside international peers.

9:00 AM – 12:30 PM

English Classes – Participate in small-group, interactive lessons focused on real-world communication, leadership, and business or academic skills. Taught by experienced instructors on the University of San Diego campus.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

Lunch – Enjoy a fresh and healthy lunch on campus, or take a packed meal when heading out on full-day excursions.

1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Afternoon Activities & Excursions – Experience Southern California through daily adventures, such as:

• Beach Day at La Jolla Shores or Coronado Island

• Tour of Balboa Park & Museums

• Old Town San Diego Cultural Experience

• Shopping at Fashion Valley Mall

• On-campus Sports and Games

• San Diego Harbor Tour

• University Scavenger Hunt or Team Challenges

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Dinner – Return to the residence hall to enjoy dinner and unwind with your group.

6:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Evening Social Activities – Fun and supervised events to build friendships and confidence:

• Movie Night under the Stars

Students enjoy exciting daily activities and unforgettable weekend experiences that showcase Southern California.

Weekly Full-Day Excursions Include:

• Theme Park Visits: SeaWorld, Universal Studios, or San Diego Zoo

• Los Angeles City Tour – Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills

• Optional Sunday excursions for students staying two or more weeks

• San Diego International Airport (SAN): $100 each way

• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): $475 each way

• Transfer costs may be shared among students traveling together
